PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) has told customers that a $75 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in August.

The company says its surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the June purchase cost used to determine the August surcharges.

The company also recently announced it would it will increase spot market prices for all carbon and stainless flat rolled steel products. (see http://www.mfrtech.com/articles/2212.html)

AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company employs about 6,200 in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pennsylvania; Ashland, Kentucky; Rockport, Indiana; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.
