(Elkhart County, Indiana) – Furniture manufacturer Izzy plans to add 85 jobs to its Harter brand production line here over the next two years, according to the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County. The factory, located just outside of Middlebury, Indiana, already employs 140.

The expansion will create 45 jobs in the first year. In April, Izzy will begin building improvements, machine purchases, and computer hardware and software technology improvements.

The county council approved a five-year tax phase-in for the company and the expansion project also garnered support from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the state's Skills Enhancement Funds, Economic Development for a Growing Economy tax credit and Hoosier Business Investment Tax Credit considerations.

The facility has produced furniture in Elkhart County since 1927 under the Harter brand name. The operation was purchased by Jami Inc. in 1995. Last year, Izzy and its parent company JSJ Corporation purchased Jami, Inc. and continues to produce under the Harter brand name.

“We appreciate this vote of support from area government, economic and business leaders, and look forward to expanding our operations in Elkhart County,” said Clare Wade, a company spokesperson. “JSJ and Izzy are focused on the long-term growth of this business.”

“This announcement comes as a breath of fresh air amidst the recent layoffs and closures we've experienced in the RV industry,” said President of the EDC of Elkhart County, Dorinda Heiden-Guss. “Elkhart County is open for business.”
