(Topeka, Indiana) – Recreational vehicle maker Starcraft will close its manufacturing plant here, putting 244 workers out of a job.

Starcraft is part of Middlebury, Indiana-based Jayco Inc. Production of the Starcraft line will reportedly move to Middlebury.

The layoffs will take place in January, the company said in a letter to the state. None of the employees are represented by a union.

Indiana’s RV industry has been hit hard by the latest economic downturn.

In addition to the Starcraft announcement, Ameri-Camp recently shut its plant in Syracuse. And Kinro Inc. – which makes aluminum and vinyl windows and doors for recreational vehicles and manufactured homes – said they will layoff 143 workers in Bristol and mothball their plant until business picks back up.
