(Chillicothe, Ohio) - The Seattle Intelligencer is reporting that Kenworth Truck Co. plans to layoff workers in Washington and shift some of its manufacturing here.

According to an online report by the newspaper, Kenworth filed notice with the state of Washington that it plans to layoff more than 400 workers at a suburban Seattle plant. As a result, production of certain heavy-duty highway trucks will be moved to Chillicothe. The newspaper report cites a union official for that information.

It’s unclear what the move will mean for employment levels here in Ohio. A spokesperson said the company does not comment on staffing or production issues.

In 2007, Kenworth completed a 105,000-square-foot addition at the Chillicothe plant. That site, located on 120 acres, started cranking out trucks in 1974.

Kenworth is a subsidiary of Paccar Inc. For more information on the company visit http://www.kenworth.com
