MD Logistics to Expand Its Pharmaceutical Distribution Operation in Central Indiana Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - Article #1172 Click image to enlarge PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Aug. 20, 2008) - Lt. Governor Becky Skillman joined executives from MD Logistics plans to expand its pharmaceutical distribution operations here, creating 75 new jobs by 2012. The 12-year-old third-party logistics provider will invest $1 million to build and equip a 15,000-square-foot pharmaceutical-grade cold storage facility in the central Indiana town, located approximately 10 miles southwest of the Indianapolis International Airport. "Anytime we can bring new jobs like the ones MD Logistics has brought to Indiana, it's a great day. But today's announcement comes with special joy as it builds on both our strengths in logistics and life sciences and further strengthens our position as a hub for these growing industries," said Skillman. The company, which operates more than 750,000 square feet of warehouse at three sites in Plainfield for clients in the pharmaceutical and electronics industries, will begin hiring managers, warehouse technicians and clerical staff later this year ahead of the pharmaceutical facility's opening in 2009. "With its location near the Indianapolis International airport and four interstate highways, Plainfield provided the ideal location to begin our business and remains a central location for distribution of pharmaceutical products to North America and the world," said Mark Sell, principal and owner of MD Logistics. The new facility, which will be built to U.S. Food and Drug Administration and current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMP) standards, will serve the company's growing pharmaceutical distribution business that is currently served from its 22,000 square-foot cold storage center in Plainfield. "There is a strong and growing demand from the pharmaceutical industry for additional climate-controlled facilities because new biologic medicines, Sell said. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered MD Logistics up to $335,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The town of Plainfield will provide property tax abatement and recruiting assistance at the request of the Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership.
