ISA Power Industry Division and EPRI Educate Power Industry Professionals

Keynote Presentations by Dean Kamen and Global Expert from Caterpillar

Research Triangle Park, NC (23 July 2008) -- The 51st Annual ISA POWID Symposium and 18th Annual Joint ISA Power/EPRI Controls and Instrumentation Conference was held on 8-13 June 2008 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event attracted over 200 attendees, 10 sponsors, and 20 exhibitors. Conference participants attended networking events, technical presentations, and exhibits based on the event’s theme, “The Pathway to Power Automation for the 2010 Decade.”

Two industry speakers were present to address the technical audience. Speakers included Harsh Chitale, VP Strategy and Global Marketing, Honeywell Process Solutions and Glen Reeves, Manager of Power Generation Salt River Project. Exhibiting companies included ABB, SRP, Wood Group, Honeywell, Yokogawa, POWER Magazine, Emerson, Invensys, PAS, Westinghouse, Siemens, and others.

In addition to industry speakers, the ISA President Kim Miller Dunn informed attendees about a number of ISA’s initiatives for 2008 and beyond.

Miller Dunn addressed an international group of power industry professionals from across the many facets of the profession. She touched on a number of the industry’s most pressing issues and how ISA is working to develop solutions for the many challenges faced by the profession. More specifically, Miller Dunn addressed ISA’s initiative to expand the availability of its products and services internationally and to a broader demographic group.

"The automation profession is now facing an aging workforce and there are not enough young people to fill roles," Miller Dunn commented. “ISA is working toward targeting high school and middle school students with informative messages about industry career opportunities to help ease the industry employment impact because of the large number of retirees leaving the automation profession.” Workforce development is a top initiative for ISA.

ISA will co-locate its power 2009 symposium with Electric Power. The event is scheduled 12–14 May in Chicago, Illinois at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The co-location will help the ISA Power Division (POWID) to educate an even larger number of attendees.
